The Night Cat

The Night Cat is a Melbourne music institution

Established in 1994, The Night Cat is one of Fitzroy’s longest-running music venues and a Melbourne cultural institution. Renowned for its deep roots in jazz, funk, R&B, disco, soul, and world music, the venue is a home for both musical exploration and community.

With its signature 360° stage in the round, The Night Cat hosts local and international headliners, late-night shows every Friday and Saturday, and the Latin-inspired 'Domingo Latino' every Sunday.

Timeless in style, the central performance space ensures you’re never far from the action, offering a uniquely up-close and personal experience, complemented by the warmth and clarity of a classic Meyer sound system.

Equity and Inclusion

The Night Cat is committed to providing a safe, positive and inclusive space that is free from harassment and/or discrimination and in which everyone is treated with dignity and respect. we do not tolerate sexism, racism, ableism, transphobia, homophobia, or ageism in any form and actively challenge discriminatory behaviours.

Our goal is to be a platform for the incredible and talented musicians of Australia and the rest of the world and to have audiences feel welcome and inspired to support the talent that we host. The Night Cat is a Melbourne institution and we understand that we are in a position to have a lasting positive impact on the industry and how musicians, staff and audiences experience live music.

We understand that the world is constantly changing and that words aren’t enough. We are committed to taking action to ensure we are being the best we can be. If you want to see our progress and our future plans, click the link below to view our Equity Action Plan.
We also want to say a massive thank you to the VMDO and Diversity Arts Australia for including us in the Fair Play program 2021 and allowing us to be a part of and access the incredible workshops and mentors who helped us develop this plan.

This is an ongoing process for us that will span over years. Equity and inclusion is not something that happens overnight and we want to do our part in affecting change in the industry, starting with our venue.
